This M2 is one of 200 units produced in the first batch, numbered #190. It is a rare item for collectors.
The Leica M2, launched in 1957, was designed as a simpler, more affordable version of the popular M3 model. Featuring a 35mm frame line, the M2 became a favorite among photographers, especially street photographers and photojournalists, due to its compact size and reliable manual controls.
● Appearance Condition
The body is in excellent condition. The vulcanite is original and intact without any cracks or damage. The “L” seal is still intact, meaning the camera has never been opened. I could not find any notable marks. The top plate shows minor signs of a light meter attachment, but nothing deep. There is a small dent from the light meter, but it’s not significant. The body displays some bright marks and scratches.
● Optical Condition (Finder)
The viewfinder is pristine, with no haze or fungus. The rangefinder works perfectly. There is a small amount of dust, and balsam separation is starting to develop near the edge of the prism. However, this is normal for every Leica M2 and does not affect its functionality in any way.
● Functional Condition
All functions are working perfectly. The slow shutter speeds seem slightly faster, while other speeds are accurate. The film advance is very smooth. The rangefinder works accurately, and the focus path is sharp. The shutter curtains are original and in beautiful condition.
